My hunting areas have a good stable population of brown bear and a longer season than many areas of Alaska running from September 1st through May 31st. Our goal is to take a brown bear that is 8 foot or better. We get quite a few in the 9-foot range with a few reaching 10 feet.
Hunts
Also, within my hunting areas, is the highest concentration of Glacier Bear, the rare “blue” phase of Coastal Black Bear. This color ranges from a slightly frosted black to steel blue. The majority of Glacier Bear are taken in the Yakutat vicinity.
All three of these bears could be seen on a Spring season hunt. A Brown Bear and a Coastal Black Bear or Glacier Bear could be taken on the same combination hunt.
Brown Bear
Brown Bear
We start our first spring hunt in mid-April and hunt through the end of the season on May 31st, then again from September 1st until late October. We combine our Brown Bear hunts with Coastal Black Bear or Glacier Bear in the spring and Wolf or Moose in the fall.
Our goal is to take bear that are 8 foot or better. We get quite a few in the 9-plus range with a few reaching 10 feet.

Glacier Bear
The Glacier Bear is a rare color phase of the Coastal Black Bear found only in the Southeast panhandle of Alaska. This color ranges from a slightly frosted black, to a steel blue-gray, with some being light gray, usually with a darker face.
The majority of all Glacier Bear are taken in the Yakutat area in the guide areas Wayne and I hold.

Fishing
Alsek River Lodge has fishing packages based from our main Lodge or overnight in tent camps, or day trips to various points in the area.
If time allows, some of our hunting clients spend a few days fishing while staying with us
